A Little About Me

Hi, I’m an engineer who spent years working for Fortune 500 companies before making a big life shift: choosing to leave the corporate world to homeschool my child and build a life centered around learning, creativity, and community here in Central Oregon.

I’ve always had a deep passion for mathematics and STEM, and I love showing kids the magic, curiosity, and creativity inside those subjects. That passion shapes everything I create here from simple experiments to nature‑based STEM and hands‑on activities families can enjoy together.

I also value privacy and simplicity, so I keep personal details minimal while still sharing the heart behind what I do. Central Oregon has become home in every sense of the word, and this blog is one way I hope to give back to the community I love.

Most importantly, I want families to feel confident supporting their children’s learning whether they homeschool, learn in person, or simply love hands‑on exploration at home.

How This Blog Began

The idea for this blog grew from three experiences in my life.

When I first moved to Central Oregon, I tried to find family activities and quickly realized there wasn’t a single place that offered simple, trustworthy guidance, everything was scattered across websites and Facebook groups. I remember wishing there was one source that could point me toward the big hitters and the worth‑knowing events so I didn’t have to comb through multiple places.

The second was three years ago, when I decided to homeschool my child. That same feeling returned. Searching for curriculum was overwhelming with endless opinions, influencers promoting their favorites, and no straightforward guidance. My first year was full of trial and error that included buying too much, figuring out what we actually needed, and learning how my child truly learns. There was no roadmap, and I often felt alone in the process.

The third came as I connected with more families in Central Oregon. Many shared the same frustrations of not knowing where to start, feeling unsure about curriculum, wanting more STEM opportunities, and wishing learning at home felt simpler, more seasonal, and more connected to our community.

Over time, I noticed something important: families in all types of schooling (homeschool, hybrid, and traditional classrooms) were asking for the same things. More STEM. More nature learning. More hands‑on activities. More clarity. A resource that made learning at home feel doable and enjoyable.

This blog grew out of those conversations and experiences. It’s the resource I wish existed when I started: a clear, practical space for families who want hands‑on learning, STEM support, and a stronger sense of community here in Central Oregon.

Why I’m Building This Now

After years of hearing from families who felt overwhelmed, under supported, and unsure where to begin, I realized I was in a unique position to help. I’ve lived the confusion of curriculum overload, navigated learning styles from scratch, and learned alongside my child as we figured out what actually works. I also care deeply about our community. Central Oregon is full of trails, small town events, seasonal traditions, and opportunities for outdoor learning yet it is often a struggle to find clear, practical guidance that ties everything together.

Education is never one size fits all, kids are always learning, observing, experimenting, and discovering. I want them to see the curiosity and creativity inside STEM and nature the same way I do.

This blog is my way of bridging that gap by offering clear, practical, hands-on support for families, strengthening our community, and helping children learn in ways that feel natural, joyful, and connected to the world around them.

A Blog for All Families

Even though a large portion of my content supports homeschool families, this blog is designed for any family who wants to bring more learning, curiosity, and connection into their home. Whether your child learns in a traditional classroom, a hybrid model, or full‑time homeschool, the activities here are meant to be simple, practical, and adaptable.

Learning doesn’t only happen during school hours, it happens in kitchens, backyards, grocery stores, trails, and everyday moments. This blog is built to support all of those moments, for all families, no matter how they educate.

My CSA + Cooking Connection

Every week, our CSA pickup becomes a learning opportunity. We explore new produce, cook together, and talk about where food comes from. It naturally blends science, math and real‑world learning. It’s one of the most grounding parts of our weeks, and something all families can explore together.

I want to share that joy through simple STEM activities using a vegetable from our pick‑up, along with easy recipes, produce‑exploration sheets, cooking‑based STEM, and seasonal food learning.

My STEM and Nature Philosophy

STEM doesn’t have to be intimidating. Nature study doesn’t have to be complicated. Math doesn’t have to be a foreign language. Kids learn best when they’re exploring, observing, experimenting, and asking questions.

This blog focuses on simple STEM activities, seasonal science, outdoor learning, and hands-on exploration. All designed to be easy for parents and engaging for kids.

Why Central Oregon Matters

While this blog is useful for families anywhere, it’s also deeply connected to Central Oregon. We live in a place full of trails, small‑town events, seasonal traditions, and opportunities for outdoor learning.

I highlight events around Central Oregon, regional trails, and seasonal outdoor learning ideas. But I also write activities so families outside Central Oregon can do them too.

Every family can use the resources whether they homeschool, use a hybrid model, or support learning after school. This blog exists to bring clarity, confidence, and community to the everyday moments where learning naturally happens.

My content follows a flexible rhythm built around monthly and seasonal themes. Some topics, like CSA cooking or homeschool support, may appear weekly when they fit naturally, but the overall structure is designed to stay manageable and seasonal.
