Homeschooling looks different for every family, and what works for us has changed over time, too. This page is a look at how learning happens in our home, the routines, choices, experiments, and everyday moments that have shaped our homeschool. I’m sharing what has worked for us, what hasn’t, and the things I’ve learned along the way.

Learning Through Everyday Life

Some of our best learning moments haven't looked much like school. We’ve learned through cooking, playing games, exploring outside, working with food, asking questions, building things, and figuring out problems as they come up. Sometimes there’s a plan. Sometimes there isn’t. I’ve found that learning doesn’t always need to be separated from everyday life to be meaningful. Often, the most interesting questions show up when we’re simply doing something together.

Teaching Numbers? Try This Simple Bathroom Number Chart

Teaching numbers doesn't always need to involve flashcards, worksheets, or sitting at the table. One of the simplest things I did when I was teaching my child numbers was to put a number chart on the wall in front of the toilet. Yep. The bathroom. Every time my child went to the bathroom, we'd take a few seconds to look at the numbers. We'd count. We'd point. We'd talk about the numbers. That's it.
